This course provides an overview of effective claims handling practices while outlining an adjuster's obligations during the claims process. We discuss the interplay of post-loss duties in insurer investigations of losses. We also discuss the insurer's obligations and responsibilities in the handling of a first party property claim.

This presentation seeks to provide an insightful and entertaining look at the Department of Justice's Sober Home's Initiative, highlighting a case study of the Dr. Ligotti Investigation, a $750 million addiction treatment fraud case. Presenters have first hand knowledge of the investigation and will share their perspectives from the viewpoint of the Case Agent, the Lead Prosecutor, the Supervising Agent, and the SIU law enforcement liaison.

We will start the class with a vivid depiction of the very best and worst experiences with experts. We will then make introductions, and get into the outline concerning the most effective means of selection, collaboration, and presentation of expert testimony. Many insurance trials are appropriately considered to be battles of the experts, and this presentation will show you who to choose and who to lose the next time you find yourself on the battlefield.

This class will be broken into 6 sections. We will provide an overview of NICB and the NICB Dashboards available for NICB member companies. We will discuss published threat assessments and current trends/patterns in insurance crimes. We will share some examples of NICB intelligence projects, and examine open-source intelligence for use in insurance fraud investigations, and look at working together as a team with member companies and law enforcement to fight insurance fraud and crime.

The course will discuss the legal basis for fee claims, including recent changes in the law and how those may apply to pending matters. Methodology for evaluating opposing counsel's timesheets will be discussed, as well as preparing for and presenting your position at a fee hearing.

This course will provide an inside look at issues found in PIP clinics and will explain how they may affect compensability under Florida PIP. We will examine issues with treatment performed, equipment used, testing, medical records, medical billing, supervision and licensure.

This presentation will include both lecture and interactive facets to provide attendees with a beneficial understanding of Florida law on insured's compliance with post loss conditions, as well as the unique experience of observing portions of a simulated examination under oath during which commentary is offered on an effective approach to eliciting relevant information in the investigation of a questionable or fraudulent claim. During the simulated examination under oath, the presenters will discuss issues that arise before and during examinations under oath, and effective tactics to control their claim investigation.

NMVTIS was established under the Anti-Car Theft Acts of 1992 and 1996. It was created to deter trafficking in stolen vehicles and prevent vehicle frauds by linking DMV databases. NMVTIS also protects consumers and companies by requiring that Junk, Salvage, or Insurance (JSI) vehicles are reported. Additionally, NMVTIS requirements are contained in several Florida statutes.

This Course provides its attendees the history of plumbing systems, the types of claims that are being presented by insureds, at times, fraudulently, in order to obtain coverage, and the type of investigative tips and tactics that insurance professionals should look for when evaluating whether a particular claim is correct or fraudulent. Additionally, the course provides the attendees with the knowledge of what is occurring in the court's system on these types of plumbing cases. The course is presented by a plumbing expert and an attorney to provide insights from both perspectives.
